As a minister and teacher I struggled with the pros and cons of buying this domain.  On the one hand I believe what you focus on will expand and by focusing on the negativity of this interaction with geico insurance it could only bring more negativity in my life.  On the other hand I found many people scattered throughout the USA with the same or similar experience.  This blog serves to warn others that when you choose GEICO Insurance you can expect, in major crashes, to pay for your medical bills.  If you can not afford to suddenly lose a minimum of $10,000;  Then DONT CHOOSE GEICO.  You are literally taking your life in your hands.  Read the compilation of personal cases and decide for yourself.

GEICO LOSES market share! You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all the people all the time.

Its official.  GEICO (cas co), Insurance Company 41491, has lost market share according to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. 

GEICO loses market share despite having spend OVER twice as much as the next insurer. I PREDICT DOOM FOR GEICO! You can only screw over so many injured people that you are REQUIRED BY LAW TO HELP, before they tell enough other people and no amount of cute ads covering your bad behavior will cover the truth. GEICO IS EVIL! Get in a serious crash, and you might wish you had died instead of dealing with them! 

Unfortunately, there are lots of people who have good reputable insurance companies and if someone insured by GEICO hits you, you are going to have to deal with their nonsense and suffer and likely have a long drawn out trial.  (which they will settle, immediately before trial, in almost all cases).  Inform others so less people will have to suffer from GEICO's irresponsibility.

So what to expect now?  My guess is they will have to come out with some new ads, and lots more money to do so.  They will "reevaluate" some customers (ie raise rates) to keep their profits up.  And the cycle will continue.  The thing is, this is a never ending pit.  GEICO needs to reform.  In addition, I have noticed a massive rash of Bad Faith Claims against GEICO.  After my experience, I am not at all surprised.  GEICO deserves more Bad Faith Claims.  And I think they are all coming.

Geico gets it wrong twice

Though we have been happy with our Allstate policy and agent, we wanted to check the rates that were out there. As a basis of comparison, we got quotes for 100/300 bodily injury liability. The quote came back quite a bit lower than Allstate. I called to verify how an umbrella policy for additional liability would begin to cover us and I was told that it was 300,000. That part is true. When I asked if there would be any gaps in coverage because of the 100/300 BI, I was told there was not a gap. That is not true. I called back a second time and was very specific and asked if there were damages between the 100,000 per person amount and the 300,000 per occurrence amount, who would pay and the rep told me I was covered. Wrong again. It was only after I sent an email to customer service that I got the correct answer. To be adequately covered with the umbrella the BI limits would have to be 300/300 so there would be no gap. This obviously changes the initial quote I received. The reps are either lying or they don't know what they are talking about. We'll be staying with Allstate.

Got in a car accidident on Wednesday, eight days later, nobody has even looked at the car. They are totally incompetent. n 01.29.2010, Royal Allen from Los Angeles, California I had a car accident on 4/28/07 in Beverly Hills California. A Honda Civic pulled in front of me as I drove down the street and I t-boned it in my Porsche Boxster. Even though it was obviously his fault (the police report even said so) he denied responsibility so his insurance company (USAA) told me I would either have to go through my insurance (Geico) or wait the 1-2 months for the investigation to complete. Of course I chose the latter.



I bought the car 5 months ago for $34,000 and added a $7,000 bodykit and had Geico insure my aftermarket items (they charged me for it). The Geico adjuster (Jason Wood) offered me $31,000. When I challenged the adjuster's offer, he told me that the bodykit only offered a $850 increase in the resell value. He simply could not understand that I didn't insure my car for resell, but REPLACEMENT in case of an accident, which I thought was the purpose of car insurance in the first place. I ended up having to call his supervisor (Mario), which was no help, so I called his supervisor (Manuel) too. After explaining my situation over and over he finally realized what I was getting at and offered to pay for the bodykit reimbursement. He said he would pay the full value of the kit because it was only 5 months old. Jason Wood (adjuster) came back with another value, which again needed to be corrected because he failed to notice I had litronic (HID) headlights. Luckily for me it only took 24 hours for them to correct the amount I was owed, $39k.



I was told I needed to contact Geico in Georgia to receive my check. They told me that since I was in a rush and I owned the Boxster I could simply go to my adjuster and exchange my car's title for the check. I called Jason and he said he didn't have checks. Geico Georgia told me that I could overnight my title to them and have a check overnighted back. I paid the $20 and overnighted my title to Geico Georgia. I called Geico to make sure they were sending me my check, and the girl told me that they were sending me a check for $31,000! I notified her that she was incorrect, so she said she'd call my adjuster but since he didn't answer they'd have to get back to me. I called them back 30 minutes later and they told me that they got the correct amount verified but that they RAN OUT OF CHECKS and that I would have to wait until Monday (it's Thursday). I told her that that was ridiculous and asked for her supervisor. The woman came back online after 5 minutes and told me that they were sending me out a check today, and that they would call me back soon with a tracking number. I waited an hour then called them back. She said they didn't have checks and that someone was looking for some. I asked her what time it was in Georgia and she said 5pm. Then I asked her how they were going to overnight me as check at 5pm, and she said "I guess it won't be."

My open complaint about GEICO Insurance submitted to insurance commission

Complaint submitted to NM Insurance Commission about GEICO. 

Thank You for taking the time to look at this.

 

I have provided the suggested documentation from my doctor stating that treatment was directly related to the car crash and was medically necessary.  Regarding medical record releases:  They have had medical releases in their possession for quite some time.  If GEICO led you to believe, they do not have medical releases they are being untruthful.  I also have a confirmation letter stating that they received the medical releases.  Despite having received all of this GEICO has made no additional contact with me concerning resolving this claim.  I feel they are stalling. 

 

I initially contacted the insurance commission substantially before a demand letter or the full package of evidence had been submitted to GEICO because of the way they were behaving.  I thought it amounted to bad faith and wanted to know the laws concerning this.  I was told by Morris Chavez to wait until I had an official response in writing before submitting an official complaint.  Which I did.

 

My initial concerns are as follows.

 

1.  Immediately after the crash they raised my premium by $20/month without any notice.  (It is set for automatic debit paid in full for 6 months at a time).  When I asked why the premium had been raised they

  1. 1st said they did not know why and I would have to call back to speak to someone else. 
  2. 2nd time I called they said I called after hours and they can only answer those kind of questions during business hours, and they would leave a message for someone to call later. 
  3. 3rd time I called they said they did not raise my rates, that they are the same as before. 
  4. I asked for a supervisor, they then said oh I see you had elected to use your car for business.  I told the person I did not do that, and that clearly it was because of the claim and that since this was an uninsured motorist and have no blame in this crash my personal rates should not be raised.  They said they would look into it and to call back after some time (I think they said 5 business days, but I am not sure). 
  5. I then called back and they said that they no longer cover any business vehicles and that the rate was dropped back to what it was pre-crash.
  6. When I called a couple days later to confirm the rate, they said it had never been changed and they have no evidence of any changes in rate.  (The debit card was refunded)

 

2.  Refusal to provide a copy of the contract covering the time during the crash, the current contract and the contract from when I first signed up.  I asked for a contract policy a minimum of 12 separate times and have been told the following: 

  1. By the claims adjuster, that I would need to contact customer service for that information. 
  2. Customer service repeatedly sent me the policy coverage document, though I read it word for word and told them that was not what I wanted but I wanted the actual contract with the legal terms. 
  3. That they (the person on the phone) don’t have access to contracts and someone would call back with access.
  4. When I would call back, they would say they have nothing in their file confirming the previous conversation or that someone would call back.
  5. Over the email, they said email was not secure and could not be used for official business.  
  6. Several customer service representatives argued with me about why I needed the contract and insisted I do not need one. 
  7. That the renewal notice has the policy changes on it, and that is all I need to know.
  8. That if I want to know the policy I just need to call and ask them and that would suffice. 
  9. That they find it suspicious and doubt my motives for wanting a copy of the contract and will be putting that “in my file”.
  10. That I should have kept the original contract from 2001.
  11. That they did not store records that long and since I am an older customer they would have to research it. 
  12. Then upon a call back was told that they can not do this because I am now enrolled in e-policy and have no paper documents.
  13. I must go to the online customer service center and the contract would be there.  I went to the customer service center online and the contract was not there.  I repeatedly was told that they had updated it in the system and if I go look in 24 hours the contract would be there.  It was not, and continues to not be available online. 
  14. Eventually I received a generic copy with legal terms but I do not know what exactly this refers to since I asked for the original contract, the contract that covered the crash, and the current contract.

 

3.  They have repeatedly minimized liability and said the following things. 

  1. You are not even the primary driver, so we really don’t owe you anything.   
  2. You aren’t on the title of the crashed car, so you really have no claim. 
  3. The payment comes in the primary drivers name so you really are trying to collect on a policy that isn’t really yours.
  4. We don’t owe you anything, this offer is just out of courtesy and to avoid hassle.
  5. If I had health insurance, part of the bills would be covered by them, so they only owe part of the health care and they should not be penalized because I do not have health insurance. 
  6. If I had workers compensation, then part of the lost wages would fall under that insurance so they do not cover lost wages. (I was not working during the crash).
  7. In regards to paying the current Chiropractic charges, which was completed earlier, that they are not responsible for the interest charges, can only issue 1 check, and if I am concerned about my credit and accruing interest then I should just settle the entire claim now.  (This was before medical treatment and evidence was complete)   

 

4.  Geico repeatedly has been difficult and uncooperative in evidence about the case.

  1. They repeatedly said they could not look a video or an mp3 at the crash due to security on their computer.
  2. They said they do not need and will not look at witness letters and that witnesses are not considered.
  3. They said they do not care what the CEO of my company says my wages are.
  4. When they have refused to look at and evaluate evidence I have submitted I asked what would be acceptable evidence and they said they can not tell me what they will accept or they make a ridiculous demand (prove that you have no pre-existing conditions, prove your income for the past 5 years, prove you didn’t have nightmares about your head being cut off before this crash)
  5. When I have gotten them to say what they will accept/need as evidence, after it is submitted, they say they want something different.  (My letter to Supervisor Amy Akins explains this in more detail).

 

5.  GEICO has been uncooperative and condescending with no interest in reasonably solving this claim

  1. Quote “I have been in an accident before and I didn’t have any problems”.
  2. Paraphrase “You are athletic and healthy, so you recovered quickly and there really wasn’t much damage, besides, if there is any you would heal quickly”
  3. They continuously make up stories and alternate explanations instead of simply relying on facts and then tell me I must counter their alternate explanation.  Ex, “Can you prove that you had not had medical treatment before”. “Can you prove that your lost wages are not due to simply going on vacation after the crash”, “Why didn’t you just work later in the day to make up for work lost while at the doctors”. 
  4. Saying that since I called 911 there was no real damage or stress.
  5. Calling at exact opposite hours that I requested and not being available when I set up a time in advance to speak with them.
  6. When I told them I would like them to stop calling me until I had fully recovered, as I was feeling more upset and aggravated by their constant adversarial calls, they called more often and continued pressuring me into accepting low ball offers below medical bills and lost wages.
  7. Regularly sent letters saying that they will close the case in 15 days.
  8. Would call and leave blank messages on my voice mail, using mute.
  9. They have refused to give accurate information from the beginning concerning medical care, forms/evidence needed and claims processing.
  10. Said they needed my “statement” 3 separate times.  On the last occasion, I said “why do you need another statement”, and was told that if I don’t do another statement then I am probably guilty or have something to hide.  (I did the 3rd statement).
  11. In a call by Brandon Berry, he screamed at the top of his lungs for 35 minutes straight and continuously tried to get me to say inaccurate things.
  12. GEICO adjusters, have in a non-stop manor, tried to get me to say inaccurate things and when I will not they get abusive and angry. 
  13. Refusing to give me the supervisor’s information (Andrea Restuccia did this).

 

6.  They have completely ignored certain factors in the crash

  1. That I was trapped in the car, in heavy freeway traffic, as the doors were inoperably smashed.
  2. That another car crash happened exactly opposite of me.
  3. That emergency personnel went to the more deadly crash, instead of me, prolonging my wait.
  4. I had to call 911 twice before anyone came to my aid.
  5. That another illegal driver came speeding up the side of the road in an attempt to illegally pass traffic, putting my life in danger yet again.
  6. The fact that the police were unable to catch the other driver combined with the fact that I was 100% innocent and this crash was inevitable made this more emotionally traumatizing.   

 

To date, I have not seen or even heard of a single piece of documentation that GEICO has that contradicts anything I have asserted.

I was buying my first car and had been under my parents policy.  I was deciding between 2 cars and called for a quote on both, (figuring that the lower priced one would be better car).  They told me since I was moving out of my parents home I should get my own policy.  I did.  I set up automatic debit, decided on a car, and all was well until I checked my bank account.  THEY, the Stupid GEICO CAVEMEN,  CHARGED ME FOR 2 CARS.  Plus the rate they quoted me was much higher, about 50% more for the 1 car.  I have been arguing with them for almost 3 hours and being transferred from person to person.  Finally I got to a supervisor who said that I was charged for 2 cars because they THINK that I bought both cars.  Why would I buy 2 cars!  WTF  And They THINK I bought 2 cars is the craziest thing I have ever heard.  How do you make a quote based on what you think? 

My dad is a lawyer.  He got my money back and my whole family moved their GEICO policy.  AND then guess what, they put it down in some file that they CANCELED US.  Not true.  My dad is taking them to court for this.  If your dad is not an attorney you are going to regret picking GEICO. 

I Hate geico. 


When I was about 20 yrs old they called me up and offered me insurancethat was cheaper than I was paying. I advised them at the time my wifeand I each had one ticket within the last 2 yrs. They assured me thiswas OK and issued the policy. About 1 month later I got a letter fromthem saying my policy had been cancelled. I called them up and theysaid it was because I had too many tickets. Since I had now beenCANCELLED from an insurance company, nobody else would insure me.Luckily I called my old agent, told him the story, and he took me backat my old rate.

That was decades ago and I still wouldn't insurewith Geico even if they paid me. For years I cussed out their telephonesolicitors and sent their postage paid envelopes back full of trash.

I wouldn't piss on their Geko if it were on fire.

I Hate Geico!

On March 1st, a member of my family (who is a college student) was struck from behind by another driver. The other driver did not find it necessary to stop and just changed lanes and continued on their way. After stopping and calling the police, it was found that there was no damage to the car and no injuries. A police report was filed as a precaution, in case anyone became hurt or if damage to the car became evident later on. We also notified Geico, although we were not making any claim.

One month later on March 31st, we received a letter from Geico explaining that "as per our request" the vehicle involved in this accident was being moved to a new policy and the person driving when the accident occurred was being designated as the primary driver of this vehicle. Furthermore, the policy explains (incorrectly) that this vehicle is garaged out of state where the driver attends college. We did not contact Geico to make any such request and their changes to the primary driver and the location of the vehicle are both incorrect.

This change increases our premium by $2,600 per year!

As soon as I received this letter, I called Geico to try to understand what was going on. They insisted that someone called them on 3/28 and changed the policy. After a few minutes they determined that one of their adjusters made this change.

After speaking with the adjuster she told us that Geico is assuming that we are lying about the location of the vehicle and the primary driver. They were making this change for us. Our only option to appeal is to complete a survey that they will be sending us. We haven't received this yet, but I will be sure to post an update when we do.

What terrible customer service! Nothing like their commercial about a rear end collision. When we received this new policy, there should have been a letter explaining why this change was being made, not falsely claiming that this was done per our request.

I'm now looking for insurance elsewhere.


We used to have Geico insurance too. One day we drove to a local mall, and while we were inside someone tried to break into our car. They put a screwdriver or something into the lock and rendered it unusable. They never made it into the car. We turned in the lock replacement, and Geico refused to pay it, and subsequently cancelled our insurance! Their explanation was that we were parking the car in a dangerous place!!! It was a big mall! Stay away from Geico.

I am also looking for a new insurance company. Gieco also lied about why they cancelled my insurance for one of my children on my policy because "she has moved to FLorida" and I don't have custody of the car any more. That was not true and I told them over the phone that she was NOT able to go to Florida and she hasn't been able to find a job, so I was paying for her insurance and her room and board. I claimed her as a dependent on my tax return. They still took her off my insurance without telling me while I was unconscious having breast cancer surgery and High Dose Radiation(HDR)treatments at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Zion, Illinois. I think that is a low blow and what makes it worse, is my daughter had an accident the day before I flew home from the surgery and I called Gieco and that is when I found out I had no insurance just for that vehicle. They said "I asked" to have the car taken off the policy and they were sorry the timing was wrong. I told them they made a mistake and the person on the phone was lying because I never cancelled the vehicle and never told them my daughter took the car out of state. In fact, the lady on the phone told me they couldn't cancel her off the policy until they had proof of insurance from another company. When I told the CEO that, she said they told me they could not insure the vehicle and that I knew it had been taken off, which was a lie. I told them I was flying out in the morning at 5 a.m. to go to the Cancer Treatment Center to have cancer surgery and I would get her her own insurance when I returned and I would fax a copy to them and then we would take her and the car (which was in my name) off the policy, but I didn't have time now and it would have to wait a couple of weeks. They denied they made a mistake and refused to pay for anything having to do with the accident and bacially they didin't care if a poor widow who has cancer has to pay out of pocket for their mistake. The Geko has a black, cold heart and I plan to go to the media and let the world know about this injustice. I agree with the last blog, stay away from Gieco!!

I also have had a miserable experience with GEICO... stay AWAY!

I had a car rub against the back of my vehicle in a parking lot in the rain. I was IN the car, but not moving. I barely felt it and thankfully it was raining because I don't even have a scratch on my car. I called Geico to let them know of the incident and I also had a police report filled-out to protect myself.

Months later I get a letter stating I am in a different tier policy which EXACTLY DOUBLED my insurance rate. Meanwhile, even if they used this "accident" against me, Geico has an EXCEPTION (c) in the policy that states if you are struck from behind, you cannot have any points or negative policy review.

They said I had the right to receive a FREE copy of the "Report" that they made this decision with (CHOICEPOINT is who they told me to contact).

I called ChoicePoint and they said that while they deal with Geico, they DO NOT handle the state of New Jersey... they had not provided a report to Geico nor could they provide one with me. I called Geico and they said they couldn't provide one.

This is a federal violation... but they could care less.

One representative said they would "guess" at the reason... they said probably due to having Roadside Assistance change a flat tire for me. I said, this is part of my policy that I pay for. Their response? "A claim is a claim"

I called another person, who said that perhaps it was that "being struck from behind means that the front of the other car needs to hit you." I said, "excuse me?? Where does it say that? What if they had backed into me?" They said, "yes, front or rear probably, not the side"

Clearly they were just guessing, had no means of contacting adjusters and said I would have to wait 6 months for an adjuster to review again.

Again, clearly a federal requirement for me to review the information they made this decision with to dispute or correct. But they could not/would not provide it. Their excuse is apparently ignorance... or not enabling their employees to have all of the information needed.

I had it by that point... picked up the phone and obtained insurance elsewhere less expensively than before and with the savings got "AAA" with $$ to spare.

My opinion: a corrupt, horrible company... then again, GEICO stands for GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE INSURANCE COMPANY

GEICO IS UNDER-HANDED. IT LEAVES ITS CUSTOMERS WITH SOME BACKGROUND ANXIETY NEVER KNOWING IF SOMEHOW THEY CAN JUST DECIDE TO CHANGE THE RULES WITHOUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND THEN MAKE OUTLANDISH CLAIMS, HIKE UP YOUR RATES, CHANGE OR DROP COVERAGE WITH SIMPLY A LETTER STATING REASONS THAT NO CUSTOMER SERVICE REP HAS THE MEANS TO ANSWER OR EXPLAIN!!!

THEY NEED TO BE INVESTIGATED AND REALLY SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES. I WON'T BE SURPRISED IF THERE IS A CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST THEM IN THE FUTURE. THEIR ARROGANCE WILL CATCH UP TO THEM.

Just moved to a new tier which resulted in a 271% rate increase. This should be illegal.

After I got into an accident and my car was totaled, I had to deal with the worst claims adjuster in history. The accident took place on a Friday and my adjuster said he would have everything ready by Monday. On Monday, I call and he said he didn't have my papers ready, and he said he'd have everything ready by Tuesday. He doesn't call me all day Tuesday and only leaves me voicemail at the end of the workday saying that he had so many meetings that he just ran out of time. He assured me on the voicemail that he would call me first thing 9:00 AM Wednesday morning. By noon, he doesn't call, so I called him and he says that his computer brokedown so he'd need a little more time to handle my claim. On Thursday, I call again and I get his voicemail saying that he's sick and had to go home early. He takes a week and 1/2 off because of his illness, and in the meantime no one works on my claim. After more than 3 weeks after my accident, things finally get taken care of and I was told I had until Nov. 13th to return my rental car. It's now November 11th and I just gt a call from my adjuster saying he messed up and that the car is actually due today!!!! Now I have to pay for the rental or scramble and find someone to take me to and from work for the next two days! Geico sucks!!!!!

I am canceling my coverige with Geico soon,and i will never recommend them to anybody i care about, i had the worst experience with them. I felt like they were against me and not on my side.
Do not get an insurance with Geico.
